The small dark triangle is where groups have successfully hidden during various conflicts. We lost an hour last night and were awakened early to see the beautiful gorge and watch as we sailed through the locks. This area of the Danube is so treacherous that there was little boat traffic before dams and later locks were constructed. The Danube begins at the Black Forest in Germany and has been an important highway throughout history.
