We spent the day cruising between Romania and Bulgaria. The face carved on the mountain is similar to our Mt Rushmore. The small dark triangle is where groups have successfully hidden during various conflicts. We lost an hour last night and were awakened early to see the beautiful gorge and watch as we sailed through the locks. This area of the Danube is so treacherous that there was little boat traffic before dams and later locks were constructed. The Danube begins at the Black Forest in Germany and has been an important highway throughout history.

This is one of the largest Eastern Orthodox churches in Europe. The dome is 39 meters across and was televised worldwide as cranes lifted it and placed it in position. It is paid for by Serbian people everywhere and has been a long time in the making. The inside is huge, but in need of acres of mosaics on the walls and other finishing touches. After the paprika museum we visited this equestrian center in Kalocsa, Hungary. This man is driving 10 horses and standing with one foot on each of the last two horses! Amazing! There were a half dozen riders who made music with their whips and had trained their horses to sit like a dog and even lie down on command. We got to go for a horse drawn wagon ride. This picture is taken in a paprika museum. We were told how the red peppers were brought from Mexico. It wasn't until there was a famine and someone thought to grind up the dried peppers, that paprika became available - a very nice surprise!. It is very healthful and is used in many Hungarian dishes.
