Colleen & Tom's Explorations
This morning when we looked out of our hotel room we were amazed that we could see the QE2 from our window!!! It was incredible.
After breakfast we caught a cab to the Empire State Building, which was really great. We looked out on 2 sides, the other 2 were cold and windy, from the 86th floor observatory. The other observatory (100 and something floor) was closed for renovations. By the time we caught our taxi back it was time to pack and go.
We are only in New York because Tom had spotted a great deal in the newspaper - 5 nights on the QE2 doing the Atlantic crossing for only $200 per night!! I was too scared to stay in New York for more than one night (come on, it's 1995 - crime in the city is really bad), but we liked it so much we will have to come back and stay longer.
This afternoon we caught a taxi to the docks and boarded our ship for our first ever cruise!! (little did we know it was to be the first of many) We had inside cabins - the cheapest! We watched New York and the Statue of Liberty pass by during the sail away - it was magnificent. We were glad we visited the Empire State Building this morning, this afternoon it was up in the clouds (as were the twin towers of the World Trade Centre).
Lunch was turkey with asparagus and Waldorf salad. Dinner was rainbow trout, sorbet, chicken and fruit. The maitre d' gave Jess the job as chief ice cream taster. His name is Andrew. Donna and Tim are our waiters.
