Colleen & Tom's Explorations
So - Sunday again - Up early this morning for another shower. It is very humid, although we slept with the aircon on all night. Just a few hours sleep then showered, dressed and ready for the 8am pickup from reception. This transfer took us through Papeete to the ferry terminal where we boarded the ferry for Moorea. Papeete is very quiet - everything is closed on a Sunday and everyone was going to church services. The ferry was quite large, with the bottom level reserved for cars and freight. After the thirty minute crossing we reclaimed our baggage and boarded a bright yellow bus, along with about 20 other people, for our short trip to the Sofitel, where we were all taken into an annexe off reception and given some pineapple juice whilst listening to an introduction to the resort. The problem is that it was 10am and our rooms are not for occupation until 2pm, but we are welcome to use any/all of the amenities. It was dreadful! After wandering the lush tropical gardens and checking out where our bungalow is, we had to sit on the thatch covered verandah of the bar, drinking cocktails (Tequila Sunrise - a nod to my favourite 70s/80s band - The Eagles for me and a Long Island Iced Tea for Tom) and eating lunch, watching the rain clouds move across the water. Nothing to do but read, relax and watch the weather! The cocktails are awesome, and half price for one and a half hours every night! The staff here speak Polynesian as well as French and English After 2pm we got the key to our bungalow and unpacked, got ourselves organised and had a nap, waking up somewhat later in the afternoon and sitting outside looking at the pretty fish in our lagoon. Dinner tonight was a buffet, being Sunday there was no a la carte, but the options on the buffet were all very delicious. The glass of wine with dinner cost a fortune (about $28 each, for house wine' but then everything here is French), so we won't do that again. After dinner we met a lady down on the pier, feeding her bread roll to the fish. She is an air traffic controller and she starts her four year contract at Papeete airport on Tuesday. She and her husband are very excited to be moving here from France for four years.
