We only just made it out of Bangkok before it gets washed away in the flood. The coach journey to Krabi was a f***ing adventure though. A 12 hour trip, turned into 20! The first bus was 2 hours late, and looked as though it had taken a short cut through Syria. The back of it was held together with bits of rope, and every other window was cracked, including what looked like a bullet hole in the windscreen. I never thought i would miss british road laws, but god bless the DVLA!
I really don't understand the apathy of some people. A one minute piece of appalling acoustic guitar Muzak, (including a bum note every second bar) played repeatedly for at least an hour. We thankfully had our iPod to drain out the repetitive racket, but the other 15 or so fellow passengers (without headphones to save them) just sat there like zombie sheep. I am sure the US government use a similar technique to torture "terror suspects" in Guantanamo Bay. As soon as the bus stopped, Teresa took it upon herself to save the cattle from audio induced suicide (it also got on our t*** every time one of our tracks faded out). Downstairs she went, only to find a fat, topless, sweaty bus driver, wearing a miners headlamp, waving his arms at her, and struggling to get back into his seat. First thoughts were "this bloke is buzzing out of his tree", but later when the bus stopped again, he got out, did a strange little dance in the road for a bit, then disappeared into the luggage section of the coach, we assumed he was just a thieving b******, and that Teresa had caught him in the act. Didn't explain the freaky dance routine, so maybe he did have a little something to pep him up for the long haul. We told a few people about his antics only to be greeted with shrugged shoulders, and told that it's to be expected. That's sheeple for ya. I'm no hard case, but if you touch my s***, we're having words. Thankfully we had all our stuff with us as the bus was only half full.
Anyway, 20 hours of death trap coaches, delayed mini busses, getting dropped off at the wrong connection point, and a f***ing mission through Thailand's less touristy areas, using public transport, we finally got to Krabi.
This place is beautiful, the weather is incredible, and we can see the island studded, lush blue water from our hotel room. One negative, is the f***ing swarms of suit selling vultures, every 20 yards or so. I thought we had left the those pestering w***ers back in Bangkok. I am still just shaking my head, albeit with gritted teeth, whereas Teresa is taking a more blunt "NO" approach. Got to say, her way works much better than mine. If we had to put up with two more days of them I could see her taking our Swiss army knife to them, but luckily we are off to the islands tomorrow. Going to chill on Lanta for a few days before heading to Phi Phi. True paradise.
Much love
