Ray and Amy 2005
Having left the South Island we have stopped in Wellington for a few days. On our way up to Auckland. We made the 3 hour ferry crossing on Thursday after spending a few days in a little town called Kaikoura.
It is on the East of the South Island and is home to all the Seals, Dusky Dolphins and Sperm Whales. So we went Whale Watching when we got there.
They pre-warned us that the conditions were a bit rough and that the whales were last spotted to be sleeping. But of course we still went. Half an hour into the journey Amy was throwing up all over the place, however the whales were awake and we spotted 3 sperm whales together after a while we moved on as there was another sighting. This time we were really lucky as the whale was slapping his tail on the surface something they do rarely. We then moved on to be near a pod of Dusky dolphins, there was about 100 of them and they were all jumping and doing there spins.
Just when I didn't want a value for money trip and I just wished it would end, due to being sick the whole time they then took us to see some of the seal colonies around the bay.
A good afternoon but glad to be back on solid ground!
