Following on from last blog entry Indra and I took the motorised hang glider flights over Vic Falls. Another true life experience as you sweep out over the falls lip and through the spray and then viewing a herd of elephants drinking in the Zambezi, a submerged family of hippo and vultures feasting on a dead hippo. It was a bit scary but really glad we did it. During the short flight you fly over Zimbabwe and my pilot advised me he sees more elephants on the golf course below than golfers !The more you read about David Livingstone the more you have to admire him and other pioneers of their era. The make up of the group changed at Vic Falls with some leaving and others joining. We then made the long bumpy ride to Lusaka, the capital of Zambia. Another overnight stop in Chipata and we finally make our next major destination, Lake Malawi, which covers one fifth of the country and is over 500km long. There are over 550 species of fish in the lake and Livingstone also operated a mission in this area. We had two great stops at sites along the lake and were able to chill a little. Climbing higher into the hills our next stop was Iringa where there are many tea plantations. Heading further east we made a stopover camp in Dar Es Salaam before catching the ferry to Zanzibar where we have spent two nights in Stonetown, the birthplace of Freddie Mercury, and two nights in a beach resort. Great not to have to pitch tents etc. Tomorrow we will be heading north west towards Kilimanjaro and Serengeti and homeward journey next weekend.
