Monday 8th April Assessment day
First day of real work. The bus left for the hospital at 7.30 sharp. So breakfast at 6.30am. We were awake about 5.30am and greeted by a beautiful view of the Himalayas with the sun glistening on the snow topped peaks, an awesome welcome to the day.
On arrival at the hospital we headed up to the assessment area, to be given our stations which included registration, surgery assessment, anaesthetic review, consent and worming, then a photo of the client and the injury were documented and made up files, some had to have xrays, and bloods review. We assessed 50 odd men, women and children, with various injuries from burn accidents, many hands deformities with the aim to restore some function and normality to these patients.
After lunch again it was making up goodie bags, and setting up wards. After a long day finishing up at 5 PM it was back to the hotel to freshen up and relax before dinner.
AND our cases had arrived. Again after many phone calls to the airport we had them delivered to the hospital. We had been surviving on cloth donations from team mates. It was soooo nice to put on my own clothes.

Wendy Thank goodness for your own clothes arriving! Sounds like you work under difficult conditions but must be rewarding to help in a different country. Take care xx
