Just-Imagine!
Wednesday 31st Dec - While in Venice one must visit these beautiful islands again, but it was sooo cold today, we all found it really difficult to get warm. I think the forecast was -2ºC with a top of 1ºC. Now I know why penguins have to stoop to see there feet, because when you have so many layers of clothes on is difficult to bend in the middle! The babies in prams look like dolls with arms and legs that don't bend.
Burano - Is a colourful island famous for lace making and brighly coloured houses. A little research told me that when residents wish to paint their houses they have to send a letter to the government and are then told what colour to paint. With 3000 residents mostly are fishermen or farmers, and not a lot of lace these days. It didn't seem as bright and joyful this time walking around, probably due to the cold, but still a beautiful sight not to be missed.
Murano - famous for the fabulous glass making the island has ancient beginnings from 1292. All glass factories of Venice were transferred to the island of Murano to protect the city from the danger of fire. With the many shops that line the main street and canal its difficult to decide where to look, clowns seem to be the flavour, there is also lots of jewelry and ornaments.
A very cold day but enjoyable to have another chance to see these two special islands.
I did have dreams of spending New years eve in Venice. Well we are close, unfortunately with a 9 yr old and freezing cold weather I watched the sun go down at 4.45pm near Venice for the last day of 2014 and will wake up in 2015.
Happy New Year

Pam Batten We are not envious of you all in the cold, but we are envious of the beautiful places you are visiting. Guess the lace in Burano didn't go on the credit card either! Loved those boots!
Raelene Mariani Lucky the cold is a bit of a novelty, at least we know its only for a short while, I actually mentioned to Rob yesterday that I didn't think I could handle another 3 months like the locals. But we are seeing some great places. The Burano lace is pretty but it's difficult to pick the authentic pieces.
