Today began early, in order to make it to the meeting place for a tour to Karlstejn Castle, just outside of Prague.
We headed for Old Town Square, passing the Museum of Torture on the way (G was very keen, I was not so much). At the meeting place, we found the guide had not arrived yet, so back to the Museum we went. It was actually very interesting but, having had the terrifying experience of the Hollywood Horrors at the Easter Show, I was freaking out, thinking someone would jump out at me.
After that, we headed back to the square and found out that we were to wait until 11 to find out if there were enough people for the tour. To kill time, we went into Starbucks (total blasphemy) and got a coffee for him, and a muffin for me. At 11, we headed back to the guide and he pointed us to another company who did tours, but unfortunately we'd missed their only tour of the day.
G decided he was too hungry to go any further, so he bought a big chunk of ham (carved hot off the bone) and we deliberated on what to do next. We decided to head back to the hostel and then out to the zoo, but were distracted on the way to the metro by H&M.
After a shopping detour, we stumbled upon another place offering a tour that afternoon, but it was much more expensive than the other. Instead of taking the tour, we headed to the nearby Communist Museum. Very informative (though I had a good grasp of the Cold War side of things from high school history). The footage of demonstrations and police brutality was very confronting, but also eye-opening.
We headed back to the hostel for a little while after that, before going back to Pivovarsky for dinner - roast pork with dumplings and sauerkraut for G, pork in thyme and beer gravy with spaetzle and then apple strudel for me. G had a banana beer, which he really wanted to buy bottles of to take home for his dad, but unfortunately they didn't sell them.
After our very early dinner, we headed back to the room and got ready for bed so that we would get up in time for the breakfast buffet tomorrow morning.
