National Museum was interesting, the highlight being the grand funeral chariots (no cameras allowed for that part so sorry you can't see!) We then went to the Aumlet Market where we bought some lucky charms for our travels!!
Picked up our bags and headed to the train station for the 17.05pm train to Surat Thani. Shared a cabin with a thai mother and her 5year old son. Had a laugh trying to eat our tea and then sleep in our bunk beds!!
Arrived Surat Thani 4am, followed by one hour mini bus drive to Don-Sak port, and then a 2 hour boat trip to Ko Samui Island. Finally arriving at our hostel/hotel we're unsure as it's quite nice!) at about 9:30am. As you can see, a very long journey in total, but completely worth it...
We were soon settled in after having much needed showers and in our bikinis down at the beach - which is beautiful (see pics!!!) The sun is so strong we both burnt = not good!
Other highlights include dodgy tummies and ripped rucksacks, and matching cut toes from the sea!! but all blocked, sewed, and sealed so smiles all round :-)
Today 12th July we forced ourselves out of bed (still trying to adjust to thai time) to visit some highlights on the island. First of all was the Butterfly garden, which was pretty and hot (but that's standard! 32 degrees today!). We then went to the islands waterfalls, trekking about half an hour uphill building up a nice sweat! We also saw elephants, monkeys, lizards and what we think are wild ox!
This evening we're heading into Chaweng, the busier town on the island for food and checking out a hostel for sunday and monday night. We then plan to head to Ko Tao for 3 nights, followed by Ko Pha Ngan for another 3 nights and the famous 'Full Moon Party'. We're considering hiring a car, but undecided at the moment.
Off for a well-needed dip in the pool/sea now!!!
Sawadee for now xxxx
