Hi All!! I hope you are all well?
So I´m in Brazil now but I´ll quickly finish up Africa!
I flew from Nairobi down to Johannasburg - which took up the whole day by the time the taxi driver had got us lost looking for the hostel! It was a short flight which was good and I ended up chatting to the guy sat next to me the whole way - he works as a lighting engineer for sports filming over Africa so it was quite interesting.
The hostel was gorgeous!! It´s run by this little old couple and they clearly love it. I had a little shalet to myself, with a TV, coffee making facilities and on-suite - WITH A BATH!!!! How happy was I! Prepaired myself for a nice relaxing soak in the tub when a thunderstorm hit - and it hit hard!! The bath was shaking!! I didn´t like it - got scared and had to get in to bed with the TV up loud!! I hate being 27 and still needing mum during a thunderstorm!
Tuesday I flew to Nairobi - 10hr flight but really good staff, food and films so it went quite quickly. There was a fair bit of turbulence, my tea got sloshed everywhere and then we fell out the sky a bit! My tummy wasn´t happy! As we came into land we flew through a lightning storm - I felt the urge to tell the pilot incase he hadn´t noticed but managed to stay seated! I´m sure we should have gone round it or something!
So - Brazil! It seems no-one really speaks english - including in the airport! A bit of a shock to the system! Due to some good planning on my part ( I know - what a surprise!) I worked out how to get from A- B and managed to buy the tickets to do it! The hostel is lovely and the staff are really nice.
On Wednesday I went out all full of beans to start a new adventure and before I´d even got on the first metro I´d managed to confuse everyone that was willing to try and help! I spent the day getting lost, walking a lot and not eating a thing coz I didn´t know how to order what ever was on the menu I couldn´t read!
Over the last few days and a bit more planning in to what I was trying to achieve,I´ve had a really good time. I went to the Cathedral, walked around a couple of parks, booked my ticket out of here and did some food shopping, went to a massive shopping mall where everyone was beautiful and the were shoes and bags ( I felt like a troll by the time I was done!)! I´ve been to a market, found a museum that was closed, and have discovered the wonderful tallent that I attract homeless people even when there don´t seem to be any around! I even managed to order a drink and some food all in Brazilian!! ( It was a starbucks but I felt ever so proud!)
I´m leaving here on Monday and heading towards Rio but stopping at a place called Sao Sebastiao where I´ll catch a ferry to an Island called Ilhabela. I´ll stay there soaking up the sun for a bit then Thursday make my way to Rio to meet Bex!!! I´m so excited! It feels like an age a go Bex told me she was coming out to meet me and as excited I always thought something would get in the way - I remember the day I got a text with her flight details and now its actually happening!! I´ll have someone to talk to again!!!!! There have been a couple of people at the hostel but it seems everyone is Brazilian coz there is U2 concert this weekend. I think they´re folling me coz they were in Cape town too . . . .hummm!!
Fingers crossed my photos uploaded too! Just a selection and non of them do justice to the real thing! Enjoy!! x x x
