Horsham
Melbourne to Horsham 288km
14th-15th July
We stayed in Horsham for a night on our way to Melbourne to break up the driving a little. It was a 3 and a half hour drive so it would mean less time to Adelaide the day after, but we didn't want to go any further today as we hadn't had any sleep the night before with our 2am flight. We stayed at Wimmera Lakes Caravan Resort for $79 a night. We had our own 2 bed cabin with full kitchen/living and bathroom. It was great for the price! We nipped into town and then just got all our washing done and had a mega early night- just what we needed!

Horsham to Adelaide 427km

It was a nice drive to Adelaide. The last bit of the drive down into Adelaide was steep on the highway as Adelaide was down in a valley. The hotel, Sage Hotel, was lovely. It had a nice balcony overlooking the surrounding hills. It was just on the edge if the CBD grid but walkable to the main streets of the city. There was also free trams in the city, like Melbourne, that we got a couple of times. It was a pretty small city, which was fairly quiet and built by the Adelaide river. It was picturesque down by the river. We had a walk around the city when we got there and then went out for an Indian with our groupon voucher, and then on a night out on Mitchell Street, the main nightlife street. It was a very lively atmosphere and it seemed to be mainly very young people out- maybe we were just in the wrong place. We didn't get to bed until 2am though and had a good night anyway!
The next day we got the train to Port Adelaide as there was a food festival on- Fork in the Port. When we got to the town, down by the river, there was a river cruise just about to leave which was only $8 each for an hour and a half trip, that said you may see wildlife. We didn't expect to see anything, just thought it would a nice trip up the river, with commentary. We ended up seeing quite a few dolphins and a pup seal, which was great! We also learnt about the history and the current use of the port for imports and exports. It was such a bargain for $8- glad we went on it! After we spent the day/night at the food festival, eating and drinking before getting the train back. We got ready at the hotel and then headed into town to the SkyCity Casino to a couple of bars in the complex for some more drinks. We had a cheeky bet before we went home and won $80, so paid for a little bit of our night.
We spent the last day wandering the city, we went to a market, wandered around malls in town and down to river before heading back to the room to relax before the big drive. Adelaide, it's been a pleasure! Another lovely place. Another state down- SA!
