After our drive down from Cape Reigna we found a free DOC campsite to stay at not far from Kaitaia on State Highway 1. The site was just a large grassed areas across a stream in the forest and it had a long drop toilet (no flush, just a long drop into the toilet- the site at Cape Reigna had one too), which scared me a little. More and more people pulled up the later it got, some people in campers, tents and others sleeping in cars. It was a nice peaceful spot anyway for us to get our heads down for the night. We had quite a while left of the afternoon when we got there so we just relaxed and had more than a few games of cards!
