7th-8th May
We had a long drive today. We set off at 8am and got to Fortrose for around 5pm, with a lot of stops on the way though! We also had to stop for sheep crossing the road too ha! We stopped in Tuatapere, the most south-west town and the sausage capital of NZ- not sure why though!! There was nothing to be seen in this tiny place. We ended up getting a battered sausage from a four square shop with a cafe in it! We stopped in Invercargill for an hour or two and had a walk around the city. There wasn't much to see but it was most like home I guess. It was quite a big city for NZ and has a Scottish heritage and had all old buildings. It looked very nice and like old school England. We came to Fortrose, just at the start of the Catlins Coast and stayed overnight at Moray Terrace, a lovely spot right near where the Mataura river meets the sea. We had lovely views and we saw a beautiful sunset over the water. It was very exposed though as it was just parking on the grass near the boat ramp and it got very windy and rainy later so it was a rocky night!
On the 8th we were up and off on our drive along Catlins Coast.
