Quick update as to what's been happening since leaving the lovely city of Perth. We flew to Adelaide from Perth not very happy as lots of people kept saying that Adelaide was really boring and full of churches (which it was!) and we had a week there so we were already trying to make plans to get out asap and we hadn't even landed yet! When we got there we went to our hostel which looked like a young offenders institution from the outside and when we got in everyone was miserable and didn't smile at us even when we smiled at them....bloody rude Germans! On the upside to the hostel they had free apple pie and cream every night which was yummy! On our 2nd day in Adelaide we went to the sunday markets which was s***e so we met up with Mike (an aussie guy from Adelaide that Charlie met last time she was travelling) who got us drunk and took us to a club, quite fun although in the taxi on the way back to our hostel we nearly died....the f***ing driver fell asleep at the wheel and veered over 3 lanes and nearly into the bollards, we had to kick his chair and shout at him to wake up!! The next day slightly hungover but grateful we were alive, we just went to the cinema to see Australia which was an amazing film, the next day we went to Glenelg beach and did a spot of sunbathing.....I'm still pastey as the weather is quite s*** here at the mo! That night we met up with Mike again and he took us to PJ O'Briens Irish pub for the comedy club night which was really good. The next day we got to leave Adelaide (it wasn't as boring as we thought it would be but still happy to leave!) we got picked up at 6.45am to do our 3day Great Ocean Road tour to Melbourne with Groovy Grape, we spent alot of the 1st day driving from Adelaide to the Grampians National Park, everyone was playing pictionary/hangman and lots of other games by drawing on the windscreen of the bus....quite funny when the tour guide who was supposed to be driving started drawing on the windscreen too! When we got to the Grampians we did a walk with lots of steps to the Mckenzie Falls, the tour guide JP said it was a flat walk....it wasn't....we were half dead and sweaty by the time we got back up to the top and JP just stood there laughing at us and then he took us on another walk which at both lookout points had the same view just from a slightly different angle, by this stage JP was calling us spastics and laughing at us even more and that was when the piss taking started. That night we went to a lovely hostel in the Grampians and had an aussie bbq....mmmmm steak! Charlie taught everyone the ride the bus drinking game that night & accidently got JP (the driver...) slightly pissed with another 7am start the next day. Oops.
The 2nd day we prepared ourselves for the 2km climb up a mountain and then the 2km descent. Let me just say I love walking....but this wasn't a gentle peaceful walk....we had to actually climb up boulders wedging our feet in cracks and hauling ourselves up for 2 bloody kilometres. Needless to say it was hard work and we nearly died once we FINALLY (it took over an hour up) reached the Pinnacle at the top, but what an amazing view, it was so worth the sweat/pain/aches/scratches/twisted ankles/rock surfing and various other injuries. After the hour climb down where it was really slippery....thats when Lois got her rock surfing out and nearly pushed Charlie off the edge! Once we got down we felt very very proud of ourselves but knew we would be in pain in the morning, it was hard work but so satisfying. The rest of the day was spent eating, doing a 'gentle' walk through the rainforest and driving towards the Great Ocean Road. By evening we reached the 12 apostles on the Gt Ocean Rd where we decided it would be lovely to watch the sun go down there with some goon (very cheap - about 4 pounds for 4 litres - wine in a bag for those of you that don't know what goon is).....well.....it was so friggin windy that when we tried to pour the goon into our cups it blew out of the cup and all over us, so we gave up and didn't bother waiting for the sunset as there was clouds covering it anyway.
The last day of our tour was spent looking at various different rocks/beaches/more rocks/beaches/rocks/big boulders/yellow rocks and yes....more rocks! They were pretty cool rocks (limestone rocks in the sea that used to be part of the cliff apparently) but by lunch time we were all rocked out and had some fish & chips.....mmmmmmmmm. In the afternoon we got back on the Gt Ocean Rd and stopped somewhere where there were lots of cute wild koalas in the trees....awwwwwww......although not so cute, as JP said the males have 2 penis's and they only mate for 1 day of the year where they wait for the females at the bottom of the tree, if the females don't come down the males just climb up the tree and shove in their 2 penis's anyway, so in the words of JP "Those koalas may look cute but they're all rapists, KOALAS ARE ALL RAPISTS!!". Heeeheeee. Oh and saw the Round The Twist lighthouse....if anyone remembers the weird children's TV program from the 90s? "Have you ever, ever felt like this, have strange things happened are you going round the twist?"!! That was it for our tour, in the evening we met up with everyone again and got drunk....where me & Charlie sang karaoke....we were shockingly bad & got booed....it was fun!
That's my update, we are now in St Kilda, Melbourne, where we've met up with James, Howard and Mr Swiss who were all at our hostel in Perth so we have a reunion going on now! And we also went to the Neighbours night last night but me & Charlie got chucked out about 10.30pm for being 'too intoxicated'....us intoxicated??? How very dare they!!
