Had a great time visiting Jerusalem! Went with with one of my roommates who knows the city well and it was nice to have a travel buddy! We went around the old city and he helped me bargain with one of the vendors and I got a really pretty tapestry to hide one of my many white walls in my apartment in Ann Arbor!
After grabbing lunch in the old city we went over to East Jerusalem, to the Muslim area where my roommate wanted to say hi to an old friend, Ibrahim. Ibrahim was probably one of the most interesting and inspiring people Ive ever met. He runs a hostel of sorts. He doesnt charge any money to stay there and cooks meals for everyone daily (there is a donation box that was set up by some of the regulars). He owns a large complex of homes where his family lives as well as where he houses travelers. He is muslim but does not speak of religion at all and is one of the world's leaders in peace-making. He speaks four langauges and has traveled the world giving talks about peace and spreading his message as far as he can. He has amazing stories that he shared with me and is also so open and warm. Earlier this week there were over 50 people staying at his hostel. He does not advertise, everyone finds their way there by word of mouth. It really was an amazing place, and he an amazing person.
