Well this is the final few days of my trip and how relaxing they have been. Hawaii is soooo hot so am completely frying in the sun but the sea is so gorgeous and clear here and v inviting to take a dip.
So I had a mammoth journey to get here via Auckland and Fiji with a very long wait in Fiji airport, but I arrived in Hawaii last thursday. It was a weird experience to fly across the time zone and so arrive before I had set off from NZ so to speak and thus giving myself a whole extra day in 2007! For the first 3 nights I decided to check in to a nice hotel and spoil myself a little and not have some random waking me up/keeping me from falling asleep in some crappy dorm room. So I chose the Royal Garden Hotel in Waikiki. It was so nice to have my own bathroom and have 2 beds to choose from! The next few days were mainly spent mincing around Waikiki and sunning myself on the beach during the day. Unfortunately on the first day I forgot my Ipod so was subjected to listening to moronic American conversations all day. They seriously are the loudest nation on the planet. The place is overloaded with Japs too but they at least are much quieter! So plenty of surfer dudes but somehow the long hair/slow speech thing and being addressed as 'dude' doesnt really float my boat. Instead I have rekindled a life long affair with the T.V!
Sunday morning was spent enjoying a yummy buffet brunch at the Sheraton, one of the blingiest hotels in Waikiki, before I took the bus to Kailua which is on the windward side of Oahu to stay here for a few days in a B&B. Kailua beach is a lot quieter than the commercialised Waikiki but I think I prefer the buzz of the latter. So tomorrow I am going back to W for the final 3 days of my trip. After the lap of luxury, have decided to tighten the purse strings and go back to my hostelling days. At least they give you free peanut butter and jelly brekkie - something I have not tried yet!
