Merry Christmas all!!!
Festive wishes from Cambodia. Having a rather Buddist Christmas (as in non-existent) but still having an amazing time on our travels. We flew in to Cambodia on Sunday and met up with our friends Amy and Justin staying the night in the capital Phnom Penh. We then travelled to Siem Reap on Monday with them and checked into the same hotel. The hotel is lovely and includes breakfast, bikes and picnics. We've spent the past three days exploring the temples of Ankor. The temples are truely one the best things I've ever seen, mainly because it's like being Indiana Jones for the day. You can cllimb to the very top of them, run around the maze like corridors and pretend Rach is the Nazi character. Some of them are stuck out in the middle of jungle and when there are not too many Japanese tourists around you can feel like your the first person to have discovered them. Huge trees sprout out of their walls and moss grows over the beautiful carvings. They're definitely my favourite thing I've seen so far. On the first 2 days of sight seeing we visited the sights in a Tuk Tuk but on the last day we borrowed bikes from the hotel. True to form I managed to ruin my bike on the ride home, with seat buckling under my weight causing irreperable damage (to the bike). As my experience of waiting till it was a bit dark and then returning the bike quickly had worked so well in India I followed this plan again with equal success.
The food and drink here are still cheap (about 30p a beer and a pound a meal) and we did a fair bit of both with Amy and Justin. They left to go and meet Amy's parents on Christmas eve and so me and Rach have spent Christmas together today. We celebrated with some mid day beers and pizzas and came home to watch Home Alone on the tele. Just popped to the shop to get a few more beers while we pack ready to move on to Battambang tomorrow.
Thanks to everyone who leaves messages, really nice to know everyone is reading them. Will keep blogging when ever we get the chance.
Loads of Love Joe and Rach x x x
