Rachel Gronholz Alderman's Travels
Three days gone already! It's hard to believe. A few things have stuck out in my mind...
Traffic is as bad as I've heard. We never have to go very far and have always tried to go during non rush hour, but every trip is an adventure. There are bicycles, cars, pedestrians, buses, and motorcycles. So many motorcycles! There are also no clear lanes. Drivers have to be 360 degrees aware. Speed bumps are the main form of traffic control.
The striking contrast between poverty and wealth, and how they exist so close to each other.
The number of dogs.
The trash...truly everywhere.
And...work is work. In the office, I could be in the US. Two notable differences: it's not uncommon to lose power, and the cafeteria is free.
