We arrived in Australia a little earlier than planned but it didn't make much difference to us as we needed to change terminals and fly out of Brisbane to Cairns three hours later. We sat in departures tired out and couldn't afford any food or drink so we just had to hope they'd hand some out on the next flight. We eventually boarded the plane and after a short while the lovely (much nicer than the previous Qantas staff) gave out a few brews and muffins! Rachael fell asleep for the rest of the flight and Tom watched the endless beach pass by below all the way up the east coast, wow!
We landed and and jumped on our free shuttle bus which took us to our hostel. The hostel was booked a few weeks ago online where we were told we would be in a 14 bed dorm so it was a nice surprise when we were shown to a room with only two others.
We needed food so we wandered around Cairns finding the only supermarket we could afford, Woolworths (they mustn't have gone bust then). As we were so hungry and couldn't wait till we got back to the hostel we sat on a bench outside making Chicken butties with a cooked Chicken.
Australia's climate seems so cool compared to Asia, much more comfortable, mid-20s maybe, it even drizzled.
That evening we went to the pub for tea and used our free meal vouchers. We really enjoyed going to the pub for the first time in four months, although we had to wait for the happy hours before we could afford the beer. We stayed for a few hours, took part in the quiz (in which you could win a sky dive) then went back to the hostel.
