Wednesday : Fine
We are going for another walk today, we want to visit the other three villages of Cinque Terre. Starting at Riomaggoire and walking back to Varnazza. Stopping in at Manarola and Corniglia.
We got started after breakfast and walked to the station, we just missed the train too. Unlucky! We had about a 40min wait for the next train to Riomaggoire.
The walk between Monterosso and Riomaggoire is suppose to take 5-6hrs. So we are in for another big day. By train it took about 10mins, and once we were there we could see that the tourist office was open. We went in and picked up a map, then started walking.
We walked through Riomaggoire for awhile, but we didn't get very far because the track to Manarola was closed.
We went back to the tourist office to find out what was going on. The worker gave me the disappointing news that not only the track to Manarola was closed, but the track to Corniglia was closed as well! Looks like our day just got a bit shorter.
The only way to get to those other towns was by train. I was pretty sad about that. Luckily we had a good long walk yesterday.
We went back to the station to see when we could catch the next train, it was in one hour. We found a place to have a beer and focaccia, it was high above the town and had beautiful views across the water.
We could walk from Corniglia to Vernazza so we skipped Manorola and hopped off the train a Corniglia. The walk up the stairs to the town from the station is a goodie, as well as the town itself. All these towns are pretty Corniglia is much smaller than Riomaggoire, and is positioned right on a cliffs edge giving us fantastic views of Manarola, the water and the cliffs and mountains surrounding us.
We had a nice walk around town through all the narrow streets and to a nice lookout. We also saw the walking signs to Vernazza and started the 1.5hr walk. It definitely didn't take that long, we were in Vernazza in no time, it felt like only about 40-50mins, I think it might of been the geriatric track. The walk was pretty easy, with only a couple short steep climbs, and plenty of old timers hugging the rail. Like all the trails here though it still offered marvelous views.
Seeing how we weren't timing the trains very well today we went straight to the station, checked the times and bought our tickets home.
We had just over an hour to walk around Vernazza before our train arrived. I think it's my favorite village, we picked up some gelato and went to the beach for a rest.
Once back in Framura we walked down to our local beach for a swim. I like Framura beach as well it's always empty, maybe because it's 20 minutes down a steep hill. We then walked up the hill to the local store and bought more beer, wine, crackers and home made pesto for the crackers and pasta that was for dinner.
We had a nice late afternoon aperitivo, drinking beer, eating olives, cheese and crackers with pesto. All while looking out to sea.
