Travel And Time
The disappearing lake is a karst phenomenon. There wasn't a whole lot of lake there but my guide, Martin, managed to make it a very interesting ride, and walk.
We went to look at swallow holes, that is, holes in the ground where the water just gets swallowed up into the huge underground water system.
You would think that this large body of water would have some connection to the Adriatic but it is intricately connected to the Black Sea.
Martin covered the geology, ecology, political and social history and threw in some very considered and thoughtful ideas and concepts. Very interesting man. The few hours passed very quickly.
