I managed to get away from Bottle Beach and back to Koh Samui to try and change my flights home. I realised I had 2 choices. Either go back to Bangkok and fly home from there, or fly to Singapore as planned and then home. Either way, all my flights needed changing, and I had 3! It became clear that by the time I got to Koh Samui I had missed any chance of leaving until the following day, which meant I would actually only get back to the UK 1 day ahead of the origional date. It just didnt make sense to go throught the hastle and cost of doing this, just to save 1 day, so I decided to stay put.
I just needed to keep busy, so the next day I hired a motor scooter for the whole day, which cost only 2 pounds!!! I think so far, the best bargain! I basically rode all around the island stopping at a waterfall here a tiger zoo there. I also stopped at some very unusual rock formations called 'Grandmother and Grandfather rocks'. Basically it was several large rocks on the beach, which included one in the shape of a giant penis and another in the shape of a vagina. There is a story behind it, my guidebook states 'an elderly couple was enroute to the mainland to procure a wife for thier son when a fierce storm pummeled the ship and killed the two sefearers. Their bodies washed ashore, and their respective genetals somehow petrified in the shapes of 'Grandfather rock' and 'Grandmother rock'. I sat watching japanese tourists taking pictures, trying to make it look like the bloke was sucking the penis. I would have tried that myself, but didnt think it approprite to ask anyone to take the photo. I had great fun that day. It kind of seemed wrong after what had happened, like I shouldnt be enjoying myself anymore. I was knackered after touring the place for a whole day, and wasnt really in the mood for a party so didnt plan on going to the full moon party anymore either.
That was until about 11.30pm. I decided that I needed to go, just to finish my time there. If I didnt, it would feel like I had missed something major, and im sure grandad would have had something to say. After a panic as I had spent all my money thinking I wasnt going anymore, I caught a boat just in time. As I rode on the speedboat accross to Had Rin (where the party was) I smiled and thought to myself, either he would be saying 'Why would you want to go to something like that, you fool! or 'If I were a lad again, i'd have loved to do that'. Either way, im sure he will be glad I went.
The party was basically just a sea of people, all really drunk or off their faces on something. Im so glad I went, its deffinatly not something you see everyday. The streets are lined with stalls selling sand castle buckets with either rum, vodka or some kind of spirit, with coke or sprite and a redbull. I bought a rum and coke version, (diet of course, my body is a temple after all) and set off down the beach. I started to feel the effects really quickly, and ended up getting a big curly moustache and beard painted on my face, and then a wicked hat that i'd seen others wearing. I have to say, I looked awsome! There were people everywhere and people playing with fire sticks and dancing on everything, everywhere!
I actually ended up getting really really really drunk, I was struggling to walk back to the boat. So far this trip ive not really been drinking that much so was out of practice. I got back relativley early at 3.30am. I had a plane to catch to Singapore at 4.30pm that day. Grim.
The next morning I seemed to get away without a headache, I just had a really queezy feeling. A result I think. I checked out and spent most of the day sleeping in my hotels designated 'chill out area'.
