I left Hong Kong to go to Macau early in the morning on a TurboJet ferry. Very fast ferry, only took 45 mins.
Macau is like a Portuguese town/Chinese town. I think is was owned by the Portuguese a long time ago, and some of the buildings still show this, and most of the signs etc are still written in Chinese, Portuguese and then English. Is deffinatly up and coming though, there are building constructions everywhere, from whats been completed so far, its going to be like another Las Vagas. Casinos everywhere. Unfortunatly none of them would let a poor smelly scruffy backpacker in, but they all looked very fancy from the outside!
Things are starting to get cheaper too, my room was cheaper and bigger, and the food and everything seems to be cheaper. Hopefully this trend will continue as I go further west. Im struggling with the food though! Ive been told the chinese eat every part of the animal, nothing goes to waste. I can tell with some of the stuff ive been served so far. I keep trying to play it safe with just noodles, but they are starting to wear a little thin.
On my first day I only really had a few hours in Macau. As it got dark, I went to bed with another bowl of noodles, 2 warm beers i'd brough with me from Hong Kong, and 2 english language tv channels on the tv. Wicked!
Early the next morning, I had a plane to catch to Bangkok. I flew with Air Asia, brand new planes, and official airline of Manchster United, apparently!?!
