It's really, really good to be on the move again. Discovering new places, getting lost, new tastes & smells, new languages, new landscapes, new money.... The list Goes on and on.
The reason for this outburst was I moved out of Thailand!!! Woohoooooo.
Up early in Chiang Saen, Thailand for our last fried rice with veges then off to the ute stop for a lift to chiang kong on Thailand/Laos border. Mission and a half but log story short we were saved by these rad Laos dudes coincidentally heading to the same town we are. These boys haggled and stood Their ground with the mobster ute driver to keep the price relatively decent!
To the thailand border we go! Get stamped out and head to down a dirt path to the mekong river, pay 40baht to the cute ladies and get onboard the rickety longtail boat!! Within 2 minutes we had been rammed onto muddy Laos turf. 10 minutes later we were shoved into the immigration office and walking out with pretty laos visas and thousands of Laos Kip! :)
Into the minivan with the boys, 4 hours later and sore eyes from staring out the windows at the breathtaking mountains and rice terraces, we arrived at luang namtha, our home for the next few nights!!
Random dusty town but a few mins by bike out side the town is absolutely stunning. So in pure becks and prue style we hired a motorbike and spent a few days exploring surrounding areas! Words can't describe.. But I'll try.. Local (and I mean laos local), rural, mud houses, stick huts, rice terraces, proper jungle, authentic laos tribes with all their crazy colored gear, kids with spears running around in the nude... The red Beetle nut smiles from the elders... We even spotted some poppies drying on a balcony (yes opium is very much sill around)... Secluded waterfalls off the beaten track.. Leeches... Hmmm how did I go??! Does is sound ok? If not.. Trust me, it's GORGEOUS!!
The place we stayed called taidam is a little treehouse over looking a rice paddy field! Windows onto our own balcony Which let the warm morning sun shine in. A perfect way to be woken up, readying yourselves for the days explorations! Haleconias hanging like vines along the bungalow walkways is just an added bonus :) I highly reccomend this place. Cheap, clean, so damn cute! The girls running the place don't speak English... So be warned :)
We found an Indian restaurant which is so damn cheap (61000 Kip ; $8aud) for 2 people.. And trust me we couldn't finish all the food. Definately eyes to big for our stomachs.. Samosas, Dahl, paneer and 2 huge naan's that are bigger than a big dinner plate! Omg so so good. May have visited this place more than once haha!
Sooooo bus booked for tomorrow am.. Jinghong, CHINA here we come!!!
Laos.. You are a bloody beautiful place! Cheers to you for letting me see you local culture, customs And untouched jungles! I will be back one day.
Oh. By the way Facebook is out of bounds in china.. So if u want to keep tabs, it's by this blog.
