So here we go.
Back in October last year I managed to blag myself an extra six months in Australia as a 'tourist'. There were two main reasons in doing so; to enjoy yet another Australian summer and to work out just what I am going to do with myself next.
Having lived off various tax refunds, hard-earned coin from my working days, and the odd paid psychological test I have finally decided my next step. I am going to Vietnam to teach English.
I spent a long time umm'ing and ahh'ing as to what could possibly become the next step on an adventure I set off on more than two years ago. Having picked up a Greek girlfriend during a visa run to NZ, the options and opportunities seemed to broaden as much as they seemed to narrow. Finally however, I have something that feels right and will be as rewarding as it will be challenging. Especially if you consider that I have never even set foot on Asian soil before.
Two days ago I booked and paid off my 140 Hour TEFL Course, which I will take here in Melbourne at the end of March. I've read a lot of info regarding the options for native English graduates looking to teach overseas, but decided I'd rather have it in the bag than not.
We (myself & Chloe) are aiming to head off around May-ish, with the idea of flying in to Ho Chi Minh City initially. From there we will embark on a 3-4 week journey up the East Coast of Vietnam, before reaching Hanoi some time in June. As the school year does not begin in Vietnam until August, it will be a good time to arrive - giving us a chance to settle in and maybe pick up a bit of Summer School work to ease myself in.
From here 'til then, there is a LOT that has to happen. Slowly but surely however, the pieces will fall in to place and here is where I will look to document as much of it as possible.
