Sydney at 8.00 when we arrived was cold! We got ourselves to Kings Cross where most the backpacker accomodation is and stopped at the first place. That day we went down to the harbour booked our bridge climb and saw the Opera House. The following day we went to book our 'wicked campervan' at the depot which is a little way out of the city centre, then once having sorted that out we took a ferry from near the opera house to manly point where we had really good views of the harbour bridge at twilight, sadly i forgot to bring my camera. That night we had a free bbq at our hostel, had a few drinks and then went to watch the FA Cup final. There were quite a lot of english people in sydney to watch the match so we were in good company.
Sunday we went with Laura & Lucy to Bondi beach, i've been here before and it was even more average second time around, the weather wasn't that great so we left after about 20 mins. That night we said goodbye to the girls our travel companions as they flew to south america the next day. Monday morning was our bridge climb. Our leader was Nathan (or Nate dog to his friends & 3 english jokers) who was really cool, 2 aussies from blue mts region and a couple of sydney peoples. We did the discovery climb which took us up to the under part of the bridge, then to the top and back down through the bridge. Apparantly it was the better climb and is only a year old. This was really good fun, for the three hours we spent going through the rigmarole and climbing. We had pics taken of us at 3 stages, we couldn't bring our own in case we dropped it. We bought 2 between us and were given a complimentary one of the group at the top.
The following day we picked up our campervan, pierre couldn't drive as his licence hadn't come through from home, so me and ryan tossed for it, i won and got to drive first. By the time we headed out of Sydney it was getting towards rush hour (was thrown in at the deep end!) and the motorway out of the city to blue mts was chokker. We went the wrong way at first in sydney, heading due south as opposed to north west but for some good navigating by pierre we managed to haul ourselves back onto the right road. We parked up in the blue mts about 7 ish, cooked ourselves up a treat of bangers & mash, sat around for a bit and went to sleep. This turned out to be our routine for our entire camper experience minus canberra & with varying meals.
Next day we saw what the blue mts had to offer. As i had been there before i chose not to do the train ride down and cable car up instead opting to walk down & up whilst pierre & ryan took the rides. It was a really scenic walk, i hadn't really planned to walk for 2 hrs but i ended up doing it, and in my all terrain flip flops! Again we parked up that night. The next day we went to a few points and drove to canberra mid afternoon (or arvo to the aussies). We slept in a car park the first night, then went to uncle johns the following day. It was good to experience home cooked food again. In our time in canberra we went to the war museum, watched indiana jones, questacon & bought a pair of trousers which was much needed+ we very much appreciated! After canberra we headed towards port fairy stopping in beechworth, campbells vinery, soverign hill over 2-3 days. Then great ocean road to melbourne for 2 days, wasn't really long enough but we still mangaged to watch a match at the mcg. We met a friend of pierre's the one night we had there for a couple of hours then agreed to let some girls in my dorm room straighten my hair. a painful experience was had by all!
