There's plenty of interesting news stories appearing on the social media feeds of the key private jet manufacturers - including updates on the next generation of private jet designs.

Embraer's second Legacy 500 prototype made its maiden flight earlier this week. Embraer claims the Legacy 500 represents the next generation of midsize private jets, featuring fly-by-wire technology and leveraging the latest advances in aerodynamics, lightweight materials and technical innovations. Not to be outdone, Gulfstream's G280 aircraft has just received type certification from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). The certification recognises that the super midsized aircraft demonstrates compliance with EASA airworthiness and environmental requirements. It is one of the final steps required for the G280 to be registered in a European Union country. Meanwhile, Dassault Aviation used Aero India 2013 as an opportunity to announce that it is investing heavily in India to better serve its expanding customer base in the Indian Subcontinent and prepare for future growth. Dassault claims it is currently the Indian market leader for large cabin private jets, with approximately 20 aircraft currently in operation in the country, and expects to deliver several more over the next two years. @Dassault_OnAir

Bombardier Aerospace was also present at Aero India, displaying its Challenger 605 and Global 6000 private jets. The Canadian-headquartered manufacturer is looking to build on a successful 2012 after recently announcing that two-thirds of all private jet orders last year were for Bombardier jets. @Bombardier_Aero

Elsewhere, Airbus will be exhibiting one of its corporate jets in Australia for the first time, giving potential customers down under the opportunity to experience the widest and tallest cabin of any business jet on the market. The Airbus ACJ319 aircraft is being shown at the Australian International Airshow from 26th to 28th February.
