My next stop was sihanoukville on the coast of Cambodia, a small city, if you can call it that but I was here primarily for the beach so I could chill out for a few days before making my way to Thailand.
The hostel was a two minute walk to the beach, and it was a lush beach but I've seen so many the past 10 months there's really no need to take a picture of another one. The only other thing going on around this place is drinking at night but I stayed clear of it so I could save money.
The weather was red hot the first day I was there I didn't even dare try sunbathing so I sat in the shade but the problem with being at the beach over here is that your a sitting target for people to hustle you. Plenty of women coming over offering to wax your chest and cut my toe nails which in all fairness were fairly long but I refused, they would continue by offering massages or food. I had the most amusing hustle off a kid trying to sell sunglasses, this is how it went.
Kid - Hello sir buy sunglasses
Me - Hello no thanks
Kid - why not
Me - because I have some (actually wearing them)
Kid - you buy as present for friends
Me - no thanks
Kid - you think I enjoy doing this? f*** you, f***ing a******
Me - I already told you no and now I'm definitely not buying any now
Kid - I hope when you fly home the plane crashes and you die, if you have a girlfriend I hope you get her pregnant and the baby dies, I hope you get a disease and die
Me - ok see you later!
Can't really say anything to the kid except try to ignore him and smile because if you start saying stuff back the chances are the locals or police would get involved and I'm not risking that so left him and he walked off straight away.
I've heard from people on my travels that some hustlers are really rude and swear and stuff and that's the first and only time I encountered it, from a kid of all people, it's funny but I do feel sorry for the kid but if I said I didn't want to buy any then you should piss off.
After a few days chilling at the beach I went back to Phnom Penh to wait for my flight. I met up with anth the French guy and we checked out the royal palace which was cool but you can't go inside any of the buildings or take pictures of inside and they also closed half the place off which was a bit annoying. The rest of my time was spent watching films, playing FIFA and drinking and having a crack on with the staff there who were great.
The flight to Bangkok only took an hour but when I got into a taxi to take me to a hostel I didn't realise how massive this city was, all the high rise building and neon and downtown areas made it feel really western and what I would imagine a city in America would feel like. It has more of a vibe to it than Saigon which was boring but at the same time this place is massive so you got to cough up money to get anywhere and since I'm trying to save for koh phangan full moon party I stuck to the downtown area I was situated.
At the time of writing this I have 3 hours until my overnight bus to the south, I have been lazy with the blogs in Cambodia ill admit but I won't be writing anything until I'm back in Bangkok as ill be spending the best part of a week partying and celebrating my birthday! See you on the other side.
