After so many weeks of chill and doing nightshift I managed to get about 4 days off work so I thought I'd chill out and go to Byron bay which if you ask anyone in oz they say its lush. Also I had a friend down there called brittney who was leaving to go home soon so I'd spend the next couple days relaxing and checking out the place.
Got the coach down and as soon as I arrived it looked great! The sun was shining and the beach looked amazing and it looked like a cool surfer hippy kind of town. Arrived in the hostel and met up with Brit and went straight to the beach.
We had a catch up and caught the rays on the beach but unfortunately I somehow forgot to put suntan lotion on and burnt half my face to a crisp... Literally, I looked like burn victim and it looked pretty ridiculous. And straight after the beach when we got back I accidentally slept the rest of the day, nightshift had ruined me, and the weather took a turn for the worse.
Never saw the sun again over the next few days and because Byron bay is pretty much catered for beach weather there wasn't an awful lot to do, I slept quite a lot the next day too which I did feel pretty bad for but there wasn't much to do anyway. The final day we booked a trip to nimbin on a coach that takes you from Byron, stop at a waterfall which was ok for about 2 mins and a quick pint at a pub before nimbin then a BBQ.
Nimbin is the hippy area of Australia, a weed sort of time warp area where all the residents are still living like its the 60s with all the long hair and laid back attitude and campaigning to legalise marijuana, mixed with younger people or old crazy people who look to cash in on the areas reputation by approaching people on the street asking if you want to buy some "stuff". As soon as we arrived there was a guy in a kids play park lighting up and having a smoke. women with sunglasses standing next to side alleys asking if you wanted some space cakes and a little weed museum with cool art.The town is only a street long, and takes 5 minutes to walk so after an hour everyone had their fill of the place and went for the BBQ. Waiting to get back on the bus was a laugh as some people had obviously taken space cakes earlier and the effects were starting to show as they would laugh out loud over nothing and wouldn't stop giggling.
Byron bay is a really lush town, the feel to it and the vibe is great, shame the weather wasn't though but the experience in nimbin made the couple of days a trip I won't forget.
