We awoke a tad early (4:30am) and found that in a carpark for 500 cars that had about 10 vehicles in it someone had decided to park right behind us and follow our lead and go to sleep. Interestingly neither of us heard them arrive!
So we trotted into Walmart to grab some early morning snacks and then it was back into Clancy and on our way to Yellowstone. Now we were not clear on exactly where we were staying but with the help of the GPS and the fact we were following the interstate we were trundling down the road again.
The journey was relatively uneventful, with many interpretive signs along the way to interest the history buff. But we were on a mission and so besides the stops to stretch the legs it was mainly onwards.
We made it to Butte, Montana around lunchtime for a refuelling of Clancy. The tourist information office offered many interesting walks to keep us busy, but given we were still half way to the destination, had not had lunch yet we decided to push on.
We stopped for lunch on the Continental divide which is just east of Butte. Here we had our lunch in a rest area with a series of interpretive signs. After lunch we set off again and the weather that had been looking ready to share tears with us let go and so in the rain we continued. We got to Bozeman and decided to pull in and grab a coffee.
We ended up at the Rocky Mountain Roasting company, Bozeman, Montana www.rockymountainroasting.com/ the coffee was great and we enjoyed the break from the driving in the rain.
We arrived at Livingston where we had looked at staying and seeing the time and distance to Yellowstone, ended up travelling to Gardiner at the North gate to Yellowstone. Here we found the Yellowstone RV Park http://www.ventureswestinc.com/YellowstoneRVPark.htm we were impressed by its cleanliness and the welcome.
The campground is along the Yellowstone river and was great in that the showers and facilities were in excellent order and the parking spot was far enough away from all. We had time to go through our planning and decided that the place was too good to let go and so we would check in for a second day the next morning.
Animals Spotted: don't really remember to focused on the drive!
