Got up early to catch the Arizona Memorial tour. Arrived at 8:00 AM, but they were already handing out tickets for 1:30 PM. As the lady behind the desk was about to hand is our tickets, the older gentleman behind the desk next to her said, "Oh, don't make them wait that long" and tossed two tickets over to her. They were for 9:00 AM. Score!
We browsed the museum briefly, then got in the queue for what we thought was the 9 AM tour. Turns out it was the 8:45, so we hung bak until all were in and they reset the ropes. We waited about 5 minutes, and they asked us if we wanted to go early - there were a couple extra seats. Of course! So we got off even earlier
The movie and tour were very moving, and it was a glorious day to be on the harbor. We did the half hour tour then visited the museum. Then we caught the shuttle to the USS Missouri, which was very impressive. Spent at least an hour there, toured the entire ship.
Next stop was the Pacific Aviation Museum located in a course hangers at the old airfield on Ford Island. It was nice, but not as impressive as Missouri or the Arizona Memorial.
Our last stop was the USS Bowfin submarine. We took the audio tour through the entire sub, then walked through the associated museum. Very cool.
By then it was 4 PM and we were bushed. We returned to the room and cleaned up for dinner. Found a really cool place called the Hua Tree Lanai in a hotel about a mile east on the beach. We had outstanding fish and a gorgeous sunset view from an outdoor patio lit with tiki torches.
A great day.
