Mostar, a city in southern Bosnia, was reduced to a pile of rubble in the Balkan war fought in the 90s. One of the reasons we visited the city was to try and understand why the war occurred here and what happened. I gained a better understanding of the war on my first trip through Europe. Ljubljana is one of my favorite cities. It's so peaceful and quaint but not boring. They have statues of poets and musicians instead of generals and murdering conquerors.
