Finally made it to the East Coast! Even though the airlines did try and scare me by delaying the plane due to 'engineering difficulties': yikes! Arrived in dark Brisbane after sitting in awe on the flight for 4 hours as I watched nothing but Australian outback fly past my window. 4 hours and that's all I saw! Crazy! Got my airport transfer to the hostel, after 2 men asked me if I my name was Philip - no, I assured them, I'm pretty sure I'm a girl! One cheeky beggar raised his eyebrow at this! He was short so what could I expect?
First day in old Brizzie was spent at the koala sanctuary: yes I hugged a koala! At first it recoiled from me, but the keeper made him hold on! Luckily he didn't urinate on me as I'd seen his friend do just seconds before on the keeper holding him!
That was pretty much my day apart from nipping into the market where I bought 2kg of bananas for $5! Bargain! As well as a loaf of seeded bread that cost me $5.50: not a bargain! Still, it was nice bread that went well with my culinary cuisine of 10packs of noodles for $2 and $0.99 porridge! Love it.
Booked a tour for my second day: did want to go on a camping tour, but as luck would have it they'd pulled it weeks earlier! Still, the tour I went on was pretty cool. Just the 4 of us and our surfer dude guide, Donny! Went to the Springbrook National Park, saw the Natural Bridge (which is apparently being closed down soon as it's in danger of collapsing!), caves, and a few different lookouts over the ridge. One lookout was called the 'best of all lookout', it's fair to say it was pretty good. That's all!
As a deal with the day tour you could add the night tour of Brisbane for just $100 total: so I did. Wasn't that amazing, but I saw the lights of Brisbane and the view from the top of Mount Coot-tha. Unfortunately my camera doesn't react that well to the night time so my pictures aren't quite able to do the view justice!
So whilst Brisbane seemed pretty small at first, the tour did open my eyes to a few more places I could have visited: if only I'd done it before my last night!! Live and learn, live and learn.
