Took a short bus ride from Kuala Lumpur to Melaka, an old port town in the south of Malaysia. It's a great little place just to wander around the small narrow streets and absorb the atmosphere. We stayed in a beautiful little guest house which was an old converted house with a great courtyard to relax in and a lovely owner who was quite happy to just sit and chat to you all afternoon.
But after having a lovely traditional lunch of tahli served on a banana leaf (just like lots of different curry type sauces served with rice) I felt ready to head off and explore. There's lots to see and quite a bit of variety as it has both a Portuguese and Dutch influence. I went to the old A'Famosa fort built by the Portuguese, climbed St Paul's hill, wandered down Jonker street famous for it's antiques and pineapple tarts (yum!). Also saw a few more temples including Cheng Hoon Teng, the oldest in the town.
This was probably the hottest place I visited in Malaysia so after quite a bit of walking I spent a few hours just relaxing in our hotel, working myself up to one last Malaysian dinner. And again it was another night market for us. I went a bit mad with the satay chicken though and ate way too much of it. I think the next time I see some satay chicken will still be too soon for me!
