Si around the world!!
Hello again!
Well, we\'ve done a fair bit since my last entry, but ill try and keep it brief-ish!
As anyone who has read Sam or J\'s entries will know, a few days ago we went to the intellectual capital of bangkok, Pat Pong. There we went to Gentlemans debating club, where we mused upon such philosophical ideas as the origin of the game of ping pong, and darts. And bottle opening, and letter writing (with no hands). The hors d\'oeuvres for the evening was a delicacy made from banana. Twas a splendid evening.
That was followed by going to a karaoke bar where we stole the show with our absolutely horrific out of tune singing of wonderwall, which died out when we all kinda forgot the words towards the end. Suffice it to say Simon Cowell will not be calling us. A personal highlight for me was getting everyone in the bar to join with me singing You\'ll never walk alone. That got me pretty excited for the Liverpool V Man U game, but the less said about that the better.
Since then in Bangkok we\'ve been to a few temples, with Wat Arun (or Dawn Temple) being my personal favourite, but check the photos out. We also went to the Thai museum which was interesting to give us a bit of background info on the place, although i think there was too many words and not enough pictures to keep a certain jewish member of our travelling party interested.
We\'ve spent the last few days on an island just south of Bangkok called Ko Samet. A standard but very fun beach holiday with the usual mix of sun (or sun burn), and booze, with a little snorkeling and fishing thrown in for good measure. The journey there took about 5 hours in total, on the way i finished the 5 people u meet in heaven (thanks tor, good book!), Sam listened to his mp3s, and J, still on about page 4 of his book, slept. Bless.
Last night was, of course, the long awaited introduction of a certain Ginger traveller to our group. Yesterday evening Mince arrived safe, sound and excited (although i think thats partly a side effect of the larium. Larium is an anti malarial drug by the way, not a class A, so dont worry mum!). We then spent the night playing cards, drinking beer, and sitting on mats on the streets around our hostel.
And so to today. Mince is doing a little site seeing, and later on today we will start to formulate a rough plan for the next few weeks. Starting, i suspect, with a trip to visit the bridge of the river Kwai in the next couple of days.
And thats my news, let me know urs, and keep posting on the message board!
All the best
Si
