I opted for a quieter day today, or at least that's what I told myself when I got out of bed. I went back down to the ferry boat and caught it up river to Chinatown. I got lost almost instantly, the place was complete chaos and it was about the time I saw a cat being wheeled down the street in a basket and into a nearby restaurant I realised I wasn't living up to the quiet day bargain I'd made myself. I decided to get the boat back to the Sky Train station, and then back to the hotel. Although not before I'd had a quick head massage and stopped into Siam Discovery for a lovely lunch, which definitely included lemon meringue pie.
Once back at the hotel I went for a swim and a sun bake in the vain attempt to fix up my face. I have goggles from my sun glasses again! They actually have these stone sun beds with spa jets in them, which are in the pool. Amazing. After the pool I holed up in my room until it got dark watching TV.
At about 7pm I ventured out to get a cab to Khao San Road to see what all the fuss was about. I was not disappointed. It was great, so many pubs, clubs and so much shopping. It would have been heaps better if Tim had been there, I don't think we would have made it back to our hotel…actually we probably wouldn't have made it to the gutter. Now that I think about it, its probably for the best that Tim is not here.
I saw lots of street vendors, including ones selling fried grasshopper and scorpions. Nearly had a heart attack when I saw crispy black scorpions, I think I would have fainted if I had actually seen anyone eating them. Despite my resolve not to shop, I caved in and bought a T-Shirt, bag and cute new swimmers, they are red, black and white with cat silhouettes on them. I went and had Indian for dinner, they actually had Palak Panner. I then got a Tuk Tuk back to the hotel, definitely something I have always wanted to do. It was so much fun bouncing along the busy streets in the glow of the many neon lights on the small street machine, I got our at my hotel feeling like I was going to burst into giggles.
