Most of this morning was spent drifting in and out of consciousness, I can't believe I've finally managed to sleep on planes. Even as one of the flights was just taking off I remember falling into oblivion as it lifted off the ground.
I eventually arrived at Male international airport at about 1pm and then had to figure out how to get a seaplane to the island that I am staying on. I managed it but I had a bit of a wait and had to pay and oversized luggage fee. Annoying. I was driven to the seaplane terminal where I had to wait another hour. I eventually boarded the seaplane, which was a bizarre experience, especially when it taxied out on the water.
We flew over many small atols and reefs, it was one of the strangest things I've ever seen. We landed in the water, which in itself was absolutely terrifying, coming down nose first into the water was quite nerve wracking.
We had landed at a small pontoon between two of the islands and soon enough boats started to come from these and surrounding islands to get the people off the plane. I got on my boat and sat back and enjoyed the beauty of this place for the fifteen minutes it took to get to Ranveli island resort. We arrived at the resort and someone else took my bags and vanished with them and then someone else checked me in while I had a drink and a snack. Nice, I could get used to this, or so I thought.
By about 5pm I managed to get to my room and have a bit of a nap before dinner. Dinner was included as I had paid for full board so I went and sat in the restaurant that overlooks the water while I ate my buffet dinner. I couldn't believe where I was, or how far away I was from the life I had just left in China.
After dinner I signed up for an excursion to snorkel with whale sharks for tomorrow, which had been one of the main draw cards in my coming here as laying on a beach all day isn't really my thing. I know what you're thinking, how can that not be someone's thing? Oh I like it well enough, it's just I get bored, I sit, I drink and then I say ok now what?
