We got a bit of a sleep in this morning, or at least those of us who had managed to reset our watches did, everyone else was up at 5am. We had breakfast and then went for a bit of a look at the wood carving market just outside the camp. I was again surprised by how much people actually bought, people bought chairs and tables among countless other things and I gave people a guide as to what they should probably be paying.
We left at about 8am and headed for the next big town, Mzuzu, again and place I had already been. Our first order of business was to buy costumes for each other at the markets, we drew other peoples names out of a hat and the person you got was the person you had to buy for.
The locals saw the massive obvious big yellow truck coming a mile away and crowded around us before we had even gotten out, dumping their wares on tarps on the floor, they had obviously saved all their most ridiculous clothes for the stupid tourists and their dress up parties. It was a totally manic experience, which was over in about twenty minutes, I got my persons outfit for about $3.00. One of the other girls, Jo kept seeing things she actually liked in the pile of ridiculousness and actually bought heaps of clothes.
After buying our costumes, we headed for the supermarket and George and I did a bit of shopping for the next couple of days. I also, after much hassle managed to get myself a local sim, which to my absolute annoyance, turned out to be a normal sim rather than a micro sim for an iPhone, after I had queued up for what seemed like forever for an iPhone sim. I could have bought a normal one in the petrol station. Oh well TIA.
We got back on the truck and headed for Kande beach, which took about another three hours, following the Dragoman truck nearly all the way, we did manage to pass them and we all gave them a cheeky wave.
We arrived at Kande Beach at about 4pm and everyone basically pitched their tents and went straight into Lake Malawi, which was lovely and still. I also went in for a dip, after performing SIM card surgery with my pocket knife in the truck, I can't believe that actually worked.
I ran into the amazing lake and swam and floated around, thinking to myself, I can't believe this is the card I pulled out of the deck of life. The sun started to set, turning the lake cotton candy pink, I didn't have my camera, so I went back to the truck to get it and spent a good while taking some amazing pictures, before going back and having dinner.
Some of us went to the bar after dinner and one of the other groups was having their costume party. George, Liv, Tara, Jo and of course yours truly ended up joining in the fun and having a few beers. I tried to get Jo to dance on the bar with me, but she refused, I ended up getting up there on my own, well I wasn't on my own for long. I was only up there for about ten seconds before people jumped up with me, including an older gentleman wearing a salmon orange ball gown.
I left the bar at about 1am and went to bed in my tent, I was glad I had stayed up as it had been a very hot and sticky day and now my tent was nice and cool.
