I left Munich early this morning with the group, for the comparatively short drive to St Goar to put the group on their Rhine River cruise, which unfortunately, as their tour leader I don't get to go on.
We reached St Goar and did a parachute drop (prepare the group, park illegally, shoo group off bus, point them in the right direction, get back on the bus and Junior Birdman the hell outta there). I had appointed one of the more organized members of the group honorary tour leader and given her the signed voucher for the cruise.
Now that we had an empty bus, it was now Gary's and mines job to take the bus to the town of Boppard to refuel and then meet the group. What do you think two metal/hard rock fans did with an empty bus all afternoon? We smashed it up the Rhine river, blasting the likes of Disturbed, Manson, Manowar, and even a bit of Rammstien. I suggested we should actually play Rammstien on the bus tomorrow, Gary just gave me a funny look. To which I replied, Hey, their German aren't they, this is modern German music.
We got to the refueling stop and filled up, we went into pay and Gary said, this is the place I was telling you about, the petrol station with the cheap cigars. Well wasn't I like a kid on Christmas, I emerged from the petrol station with a shopping bag full of cheap cigars. That's my supply for the rest of the season.
We then took the bus to the hotel and spent the rest of the afternoon smoking and drinking on the banks of the Rhine river waiting for the group to come in off their cruise. It doesn't get any better than this, this is the only way to spend Sunday afternoon I thought.
The group came in and I met them off the boat and took them wine tasting at a place called Vineum. I'd already had a beer and after a couple of glasses of Chardonay and Ice wine I was a little tipsey. The group certainly enjoyed the wine tasting. After that I took them back to the hotel and had a really good buffet dinner. A buffet dinner is always amazing as a tour leader, it means you don't have to deal with idiotic dietary requirements, I'm a vegetarian, I don't eat pork, (even though I did yesterday), I can't have garlic or mushrooms, I only eat meat every second Sunday and every third Friday. I managed to get in an early night in preparation for the fun of Amsterdam tomorrow night. Will I miss my own bus back to London, only time will tell on that one.
