It's March now. I am coming to the end of my intensive CELTA (English Language Teaching for Adults) course in Norwich. It has been a remarkable, enjoyable, rollercoaster ride. It has also been life changing. It is incredible... the confidence I am feeling now compared to 2 months ago, when I came back from South Korea with my tails between my legs, panic attacks and all.
The long winter months, fuelled by walks through the pinewoods in Wells and Facebook Scrabble, are long gone. The excitement about doing the CELTA course more than spilled over and I have been a bundle of energy and one-liners. I have also learnt stuff about teaching English, which has actually sunk in. The intensive nature of the course suits me, like any 'crash' course does... studying for a specific purpose. And I have met some fantastic, funny people, who will probably stay friends with me for a long time.
Before the course started I thought I had guaranteed my immediate future - another 12 months in Korea. I got offered a job in Changwon. I accepted it. I arranged for all the paperwork, including new criminal records check, and then, on the day I was due to send it all off I paused and said NO!
I believe I would have gone back to the same city in the same country.. for the wrong reasons... something to prove... an attempt to undo the bad feeling inside with which I left the country. I also felt that I wanted to be closer to home (as originally had been attended when I started working abroad). I need to be somewhere from where I can fly home easily or my family can fly out to me easily. So, I have decided to look into teaching jobs in Spain and France, possibly Italy. I would say I have already narrowed it down to those 3 countries in that order. If I was to choose a 4th option, it would be Poland, but that might come later on.
So, with my new found confidence and CELTA certificate in the post (v.soon), the jobsearch and the new adventure will hopefully start again soon, as will my blogs.
