Philippa's Travels
Hi everyone,
Well we visited the gorillas and if I am honest it was the most exhilarating and horrific experience of my life. It was steep 70 degree angle climb, up the side of what was originally a volacno the craters are on either side and are covered in trees, vines, etc. It was the most physically challenging thing i have ever done, after two hours of sheer hell!!! we were told the gorillas had moved.... we then had to track accross the side of a crater, with the guide slashing down vines and allsorts. I look like i have been self harming because I have deep grazes and cuts all upon my arms. Also on my backside. We had to inch our away across and then haul ouselves up this bit where the ground kept giving away and you slid back down. Then we sat in fromt of 5 gorillas including a Silverback. It was absoultely amazing. They are fantastic, we saw 8 in total, and we were only 2 meters away from them, One growled and ran towards me and Louisa (wouldn't you expect it to happen to me???) we were ok. We stayed there for an hour and then had to fall back fdown the mountain. I am not exaggerating you can see the photos on my return. I actually did fall down a small cliff and started to feel terrifed but apparently I was outwardly calm!!! Must be my calm persona I suppose. Anyway tomorrow we are going white water rafting in a place called Ginga. It is at the source of the Nile. I am hoping it will clean me, the showe situation is dreadful, I have ingrained dirt in my nails and my feet are constantly black, as for my hair........ well lets just say ' birds nest' but its all good. Only 24 people a day can get permits to see the gorillas and i can't believe i managed to do it.
LOvely to hear from everyone especially the loose cannon, goodness i am as tired as llama
lots of love
