Wow, it was hot this morning, and as we are pretty much sleeping outside with only a mosquito net around us, there were no fans and definitely no air conditioning here as we were in a tree, it was still very humid and you had to get up just so that you could find a little breeze to cool you down. It was now time to have a look around, the showers and toilets were outside and in the open with only a shower curtain as a door to the shower. The common area had a basic free breakfast of tea/coffee and bread rolls with jam. There was an honesty list for drinks taken from the fridge where you just mark off whet you take out on the list next to your name and then settle the bill when you check out. There was also a movie room and of course the sauna and plunge pool that I had vague memories of going in last night.
For a late breakfast / early lunch a few of us who were out last night went in to town which was about a 5 minute walk for something to eat before we go tubing again at around 3pm this afternoon.
Now knowing what "tubeless" tubing was like, I decided to take along my SLR for some pictures for you all to see what it's like. I won’t describe it as you will see from the photos, it is absolutely crazy, with people getting spray painted on their backs, written on with permanent marker pens, drinking games, free shots and then after all this, throwing themselves down zip wires in to the river. No wonder people always come back battered and bruised.
As you will see from the pictures, I met up with the same 4 Irish guys that had been on the bus with me the day before and they had obviously been drinking a lot longer than I had today. They said that they had tried to find my hostel yesterday but had no luck.
You may notice from the pictures that there are none of me throwing myself into the river and this is because my ribs are still really hurting and I am not able to swim without it hurting too much, so luckily, no injuries for me today.
Ed, who was staying with us at the hostel did the high swing and then when he came back ashore I asked him if he would like me to take his picture doing the zip wire, it wasn’t very graceful as they put a stopper on the wire so that when you reached that point and if you hadn’t let go by then, you were basically flung in to the air spinning around as you hit the water.
Lydia (also at our hostel) saw Ed’s pictures that I had taken and wanted to do the high swing again so that I could take her picture as she went down, but this time round she didn’t have such a good grip on the handles and basically jumped to swing out, lost her grip straight away and did this amazing belly flop, winding herself at the same time. It was just unfortunate that I was standing in the wrong place as I only got a before and after shot as I was not expecting her to fall so quickly and there was a parasol in the way. For some reason she refused to do a re-enactment for the camera!!!
As with yesterday, we headed back to the hostel just before dark at around 6pm, got showered and changed and headed back to the main town to carry on drinking. After spending my second night tubing down at the river, I was starting to meet and get to know quite a lot of people, although many of them were “gap year” students of around 18 and it made me feel quite old knowing that I was twice their age!!! LOL
Tonight I managed to make it to a few more bars and drank a few more buckets of Vodka and M150 and whiskey and coke, but I had taken it easier at the river as I wanted to make sure I remembered the whole night tonight. I did leave early when it got to the point that I knew that I had had enough but I did manage to get a banana and peanut butter pancake on the way home. Mmmm!
