On Friday, we had most of the day off. I had considered going to Chicago for the weekend with Yigang, but with so much work to do, not to mention boring stuff like clothes washing, I decided to stay in Dubuque and do a little catch-up. It also gave me the chance to go to a concert on Friday night. My new friend, General Bob, had said that he was covering the concert for 365Ink, a local newspaper, and that if I wanted to go the night would be on him. So I took him up on his offer. He and his wife Nancy met me at the Diamond Jo Casino, and we had dinner at the buffet before getting our seats at the Mississippi Moon Bar. It's a smallish venue, holding about 800 people, but General Bob had reserved seats off to one side, with great views of the stage. The band was a Pink Floyd tribute act called Protect Pink, widely regarded as the number one Pink Floyd tribute band in North America. I'm not a particular fan of Pink Floyd - I only know a few of their songs - but it was a great show, and it was a fantastic night. What mad it even better was being the guest of General Bob. As official photographer, he had unparalleled access, and his natural charm and charisma meant I got treated like royalty all night I even got to meet the band, and got all their autographs on a band t-shirt. The lead singer in particular was great, and was stoked to meet a kiwi. Being an international guest really does pay off, and it helps if you have General Bob by your side.
