Day 2
Not sure what happened here. I thought I'd left another entry and it's gone. Mary and I caught bus up to the Haight/Ashbury area of SF. This was the hippy area of the 60s. Anti war demonstrations and free rock concerts. George Harrison grateful Dead Jimmy Hendrix etc. The area is full of arty shops many established in 60s. Batik & tie dye. Eastern crafts coffee shops. Cannabis is legal on California. (Medicinal reasons). This might account for the sweet smell in the air and some unusual behaviour. Weather not good with occasional showers. Caught bus downtown. Visit an art gallery that was selling Rembrandts Durer Chagal Picasso etc. We hesitated to purchase because we thought they might get damaged on journey!! And the fact that our budget didn't quite reach.
In evening we went on a night bus tour. We saw the city from across harbour. Very impressive.

Katherine Good job you didn't linger longer in Haight Ashby and accidentally buy a Rembrandt.
