This is my fifth night in Riga at Friendly Frank's and i'm shattered!! The hostel is good for drinking and meeting people but I have stayed in better. It could be cleaner. I planned to do a bit more tourist things than I managed to do but the bar and peer pressure meant that I didn't do very much. I got here on Monday and as I was arriving all the stag does were leaving and now it's Friday (I think) they are arriving again so i'm glad I came during the week and not over a weekend!! Riga itself is a nice place, there are lots of churches and a cathedral and a Castle to see and there are several parks to sit in and nurse a hangover, which is what I spent a lot of time doing. In the centre of the city is the old town where most of the tourist attractions are and either side of the Daugava River and the Pilsetas Canal are the commercial centers. There is also a beach at Jurmala, 30km outside of Riga, which I wanted to go to but unfortunately the drink and hangovers got the better of me! Riga is a nice place to visit during the week as the Stags are not here, but at the weekends it turns into a big sausage fest so i'm glad i'm off to Tallinn tomorrow. If that's your sort of thing then Riga is the place to be!!
