". . .life is short and the world is wide"
Off to an early start we took a train to Venice, wow that a beautiful sight!!!!! I can't wait to go back in a couple of weeks, we only had about an hour to walk through the city before heading to the airport, but I managed to see enough of it at that point to fall in love with the city. It is just as beautiful as it looks in the books. A nice man helped me with my bag, and carried it over the bridges for me, it just be the blonde hair and blue eyes, just stand out as a needy American girl!
Eric met us in the airport in Athens, and somehow from this point on, everything just went our way.... We went to get tickets for the bus into town, and right after we bought tickets, the ticket office closed. We got on the bus, and as we were approaching town clueless as to what to do or where to go, the guy standing next to us told us he was a student at University of Wisconsin, but he is from Greece. He helped us find Jason's apartment and even got us a cab, As we arrived at Jason's apartment, the cab driver tried to rip me off, I gave him a 20, he slipped it into his back pocket, and pulled a 5 from him from pocket, and tried to convince me that I only gave him 5 euro, what the heck! I totally caught that one and refused to pay him any more money. After a few minutes he played it off like it was a joke, was a jerk, I was so happy that I didn't fall into him little trap like a normal tourist would! At this point we were stuck outside of the apartment because we didn't know what room to buzz... but after 5 minutes a family arrived in a taxi that lived at the apartment, and they were able to let us in, and even showed us where the Americans lived, the first room was Jason's! Somehow, someway we were able to make it to the room with no real trouble, pure luck! We could see the acropolis all lit up at night, it was GORGEOUS! We went over to some other apartment to get a better view, and even a view of the sea. We met my favorite friend Arnold, and hung out with Jason's roommates. They told us a great place to go for dinner where there was live Greek music, and we defiantly were on Greek time, eating dinner at 12:00! I ordered a Greek salad, stuffed peppers and red wine. It was such a satisfying meal, soooo good! The taziki sauce is our favorite bread dip that we got with every meal. Greek food is really cheap too by the way!
Day 2- CONQUER ATHENS! Our alarms didn't go off, but hey its spring break so that is ok!! Greece kinda grosses me out in the toilet sense, not being able to dispose of toilet paper in the toilet, and putting in a trashcan the toilet is really disgusting and unsanitary.... I never got used to that!
We saw the Acropolis, Pantheon, Acropolis Museum, Theatre, Hadrian's Arch, The temple of Zeus, The changing of the guards at the Parliament Building, Syntagma Square, Mynistraki Markets .... And I have so much to say so I will update more later!
