Tuesday we wake up in Geiranger. (Click the link to see some non-foggy pictures) After a light breakfast, we head off with the excursion to Hike Storseter Waterfall. The bus ride is really quick but we've gained some serious altitude. We hop off the bus and follow our guide into the forest. Our guide stops frequently so he can explain about the ecology and indigenous creatures in the area. He also apologizes a lot for the rain. Today it's raining, not just sprinkles. We go past one incredible waterfall that you see from the ship. Very powerful! Then we wander to the Westeras Mountain Farm where we will be having waffles later. GOATS! Lots of goats and sheep and a few Guard Llamas. Yeah, Llamas. Better than dogs in these areas. (And Vermont)
We hike to an overlook where we should be able to see the whole fjord and our ship below. Not so much. The guide says this has been a very wet, unpleasant summer and apologizes again. We then head back to the farm and have a chance to use the bathroom and settle in for the Waffles. Oooh, they are sooooo good!! We've gone by the viewpoints so quickly, because there wasn't a lot to view, that we've time to kill. Too bad there aren't more waffles. We were supposed to go to Storseter falls but unfortunately, there was a landslide last week and we can't get there. Disappointing but that does explain the redacted price of the trip. Honestly, it was a nice hike with a great guide and fantastic waffles. Ok, not a lot of large scale scenery but a good day nonetheless.
Back in town we wander around for a while and do some window shopping. We find a kiosk selling homemade salami made from.... Reindeer, Moose and Whale.I really hate to admit it, but the whale was really good. We wander a little longer then take the tender back to the ship. As we leave Geiranger we pass the Seven Sisters and Suitor waterfall. I've said that after a while you don't get excited about waterfalls? These make you get excited again. Very dramatic and HUGE! (Chris took some pictures so I have to try to get them from him soon) Its takes a few hours to reach the sea again and its waterfall after scenic view all the way.
