Now we get to a busy day... Bergen. The ship is docked in an industrial area so you have to take a bus into the center of town. We hop off and make a beeline for the funicular. The Floibanen funicular takes you up to the top of Mt. Floyen. We find it easy enough, walk up to the ticket window to buy our tickets and walk on the next car. This takes under 5 minutes to do and we are on the car going up the mountain. After 7 minutes, we are atop the hill and we've planned a short hike around the area as it is probablly the last time to be in the woods. We walk around for maybe an hour. There is a small lake that has free canoe rides but we are too early. Bummer. A quick stroll throught he gift shop and we head back down the mountain. While walking down is an option, we've too much to cover so its the funnicular for us. When we get to the bottom, the loading area is full! In fact the line goes a block down the street!! Maybe mom knew what she was doing getting there early.
We slowly walk over to the wharf area where there are all the painted buildings you see when you see pictures of Bergen. There is a neat ares behind the shops that depicts life in the old days that was definitly worth the side trip. Then, as we emerged back on to the wharf, the three of us as one smelt the most heavenly cinamon aroma. All three noses went in the air trying to figure out where it was coming from. We found the bakery and proceeded to oder two cinamom rolls and one cream puff. Of course the cream puff was the size of a softball. No, I take that back. Bigger than a softball and it was so incredible. The pastry was light and flaky while the filling was real whipped cream. Not too sweet but a culinary delight just the same. Refilled with our baked goods and coffee, we head through Bergenhaus Fortress and by Rosencrantz tower.
We're heading for a hop on/ hopoff bus pick up spot on the other side. I actually like these things because you can learn a bit about the place you're in and use it as transportation from point A to point B. We ride for about 20 minutes and get off at the Natural History Museum. Its a nice museum with lots of stuffed animals. Then we take the bus back to the wharf area to do some shopping and get some street food. Chris had an outstanding Fishcake. By now its time to head back to the bus pick and to get there we go by Bregan's memorial for the shootings. It was a week ago that they happened.
